If I were to tell you that I've never experienced any form of discrimination since the day I step on the soil of America, I would be lying to you.
Back at home, racial discrimination links to political influences. But when I came here, I, a female Asian with intentions of just gaining a bachelors degree(and traveling, seeing new cities, etc) bearing no influences politically, racial discrimination is not about politics anymore (at least to me), it's on another whole new level.
Back at home, it feels good to talk with my Malay friends, studying with them.. I enjoy joking, hanging out with my Indian friends. All those racial discrimination were politically influenced and were Adult's games. I never really bothered. It feels as if my friends and I will never be like those politicians, never.
Before I came, I thought I would be fully prepared of this, I was aware. Now that I've experienced it, I understand it's a problem that can't be dealt with easily. In my sociology class, I was introduced to Ms. Elliot.
Ms.Elliot and her third-graders
Now that I'm the minority, I know what it feels like to be discriminated and to discriminate, on a whole new level. Never will I feel the same again.
Being discriminated for who I am, is depressing.

I wrote an essay for my English class yesterday, and I mentioned how it feels to be the odd one out in most of my classes. My classmates don't know where Malaysia is, and this is my cue to sigh. I mentioned in the essay that whenever I enter the class I feel as if there's invisible arrows up on my head pointing and flashing "Only Asian". I need some time to find my niche here.

There's this place we really like. We've been there for 3 times for the past one and a half week. The stuff there ain't that bad, but seriously it's fit for two, not one x) Here's some pictures :
The one drinking water is Bosco, and the one concentrating on his iPhone is Kevin.
Shirping jiejie
SeePing from Penang and XiaoYing from China, who's studying in NUS
WangChen all the way from China who's a freshman here
Me and the bf
The bf and i shared this. lol. we ate half of it and kept the other half for dinner.
This is the super big meal that ShirPing ordered. She couldn't finish it, who can anyway?
Wang Chen finished this and ended up being too full..

I gotta learn how to be thrifty. Food here ain't that cheap if you convert, which is a bad thing, because I try not to, but I just really don't wanna spend that much on food, which is a hard thing because we tend to eat a lot during winter.
I just got to know my 2nd housemate today, Ashley. I have no idea what to talk about with them yet, they don't know anything about Malaysia(lol) and we're i'm still shy and don't know much about each other, but I guess I'll figure this out somehow. I'm still trying to get used to being the minority here. It's kinda weird being the only Asians on the bus. haha.
I did something stupid today. I didn't know their espresso here are in shots, so I ordered a double espresso and got two shots of espresso ONLY, without coffee. Sigh. I'm just gonna order hot chocolate for the next two years every morning. sigh.
Well that's all for now I guess. Sorry forgot to take a picture of my phone. Will post it up as a filler post later when I'm not free to blog =p

I spent my day in the mall again =) but no worries, I didn't buy much.. Just another jacket with inner pockets which will make it a whole lot easier for me to use while going to classes! And also another pair of long johns pants 'cause I couldn't stand the itchiness from my first pair.
Anyway, sorry, no pictures today 'cause I forgot to bring my camera out today. We managed to build one little snowman =) which didn't have any eyes or nose or mouth.
Had our first own cooked dinner =) chicken, lettuce and eggs =) not bad for first timers. Kevin, Yeow Khuan, Xiao Suan, Shir Ping, Xiao Ying, yC and me x) will get some pictures when I have the time =)
Good night lohhhh gonna go explore the campus tomorrow and time how long would it be for me to get to my classes. =)

Day 1: Dawn from my room =) in the temporary housing
This is how big it is x)
We have KFC!
This is part of my campus. the snow just got thicker today!
The view outside my room in campus. I was trying to show you guys it's snowing hard right now. If you look near the street lamp there's a lot of whitish color, that's the snow! And believe me, it's crazy out there!
Sorry I had to filter my pictures because I look hideous in most of them, due to the lack of sleep the first few nights here.
I'm going out to build some snowman tomorrow 'cause some seniors I met today said tomorrow would be a great day to build them and have snowball fights! I promise I'll take more quality pictures =)
And for those of you who're asking for pictures of my phone, don't worry it should be some time this weekend =)

Some updates on my life here, in words.
I spent almost 150 bucks to get all the necessities I need here, including a lamp, comforter, blankets, boots and warmer clothes, not to mention 4 bottles of VS's body care (great deal I got here) and Hershey's kisses for only 2 bucks.
I am in deep dilemma when placed in a bunch of Americans 'cause I don't know how to start conversing, well I guess I was just nervous. I'll figure this out later.
I've met one of my housemates. She seems nice and friendly (everyone here in Ames are friendly). I'm trying to accommodate myself to the idea of wearing shoes in the house, which is okay for me now.
I get mood swings these days. One minute I'm happy, the other I would be gone missing somewhere sulking in the corner. I guess being away from home makes my nerves sensitive. I get jealous easily (yes. i don't think i wanna explain this here. oh well.) I'm thinking too much.
I like the people here 'cause I've just got my 5th free ride today, back and forth. Seriously, people in Malaysia should learn this!
I also like the driving laws here. At the cross-junctions in Malaysia, we need traffic lights. In the States, they just need STOP signs, and they perfectly understand the meaning of tolerance, and "first to come, first to go". I've never seen any accidents happen at all! Oh and here, drivers let us, pedestrians walk first, no matter how long the line behind is, and nobody will ever ever sound their horns.
Well that's pretty much it, I've met new friends here, and I enjoy this place. The only torture I foresee for now, is the winter. haha. I'll be back tomorrow with more pictures hopefully. Malaysia time would be Sunday, 12-4pm.
Alright, time to get some sleep =)
